Resource Conflict Analysis
If a project is not allocated some of the resources it needs, those resources must have been allocated to a higher priority project. The only exception is if a project requires more of a resource than exists in the resource pool (e.g. resource capacity is zero).
Resource Conflicts - Up
- highlights the higher priority projects that have been allocated resources in periods where the target project needs them but cannot get them
- answers the question “which higher priority projects could I get my under-allocated resources from if my priority were higher than theirs or if they were delayed or cancelled?”
Resource Conflicts - Down
- highlights the lower priority projects that need resources that have been allocated to the target project
- answers the question “which lower priority projects could use the resources allocated to my project if my project had a lower priority than theirs or if my project were delayed or cancelled?”
The sheet now shows which projects have been allocated the resources that the target project needs but can’t get.
Right-click Filter Conflicts shows only the projects in conflict.
Notes on Conflict Analysis
- Conflict analysis reflects the current allocation calculation mode.
- If there is no optimization (i.e. no skills based allocation), conflict analysis deals with resource assignments only.
- If there is optimization, demand shortfall will show conflict with any resource allocation where the resource has the required skill (even if only a secondary skill).
