Insert Assignment

Summary

This dialog creates the rows on the Effort Forecast sheet connecting a resource (a person) or a skill to a project. Each row represents a real or prospective assignment to a project.

Inserting Skill Assignments

If the Skills of resources by node box is checked, all and only skills that people in the branch possess are listed with their availability.

If the “Skills of resources” box is NOT checked, the list will show all skills defined in the database (minus skills filtered out by the administrator) -- even if no resource in the node currently possesses the skill.

Skills which are not present (Primary or Secondary) in the selected node can be identified by blanks in the “Level” and “Availability” columns.

Dialog Behavior

Click the Insert button to create assignment rows on the Effort Forecasts sheet. NOTE that the dialog remains open so you can continue making assignments for this project, or for a different project.

Click the Close button when you are finished with the dialog.

All standard MS Windows methods for extending the selection apply in the candidate list including Ctl- or Shift-Click and Left-Click-Drag.

If no Required Skill is specified in the dialog when resources are assigned, the Primary Skill of each resource is used for Required Skill of the assignment.

To sort the list of candidates, single left mouse click on the column headings (i.e., Organization, Resource, Primary Skill, and Availability).  Single-click again to change the sort order.

If the Include assigned box is checked, the candidate list includes resources already assigned to the project. Assigned resources have an asterisk (“*”) in front of their name.

If the Assigned only box is checked, the candidate list includes only the resources (or skills or non-labor items) already assigned to the selected project.  This makes it easy to review the current team and any additional availability they may have

Enter Demand on Effort Forecasts Sheet

The sheet is automatically filtered to display the new assignment rows. Enter the appropriate demand values in the time period data cells.

The values are highlighted in bold and the character “N” is placed in the Delta column to indicate that the record is “New”; “C” appears if changes have been made to the record.
